Sports Physicals

All students who wish to participate in sports must have a physical within one year of starting the school sport. This is ideally done by your child’s pediatrician. A sports physical does not take place of an annual physical exam.
This year, Westford Pediatrics will be offering sports physicals for grade 8 students only. They will take place on June 16, 2017.
Please go to the NM athletics webpage to sign up and complete paperwork.

Special Olympics Success!

On April 28, several students and staff from NMS attended the Special Olympics at Fitchburg State University. The day started with a royal send off for the athletes organized by our Student Council. Members of the band performed, students held signs and cheered while the athletes made their exit from the building. Thank you to the Student Council for organizing this very special event. The sports events the athletes participated in were a relay race, soccer skills, football toss, obstacle course and a 25 meter run/walk. There was also lots of fun and dancing in the “Olympic Square” where the DJ had great music and the athletes could dance with the Fitchburg State mascot.  It was a wonderful day and everybody had a blast. Congratulations athletes! Student Spotlight: Elaina

Recently, one of our seventh graders,  Elaina Greco competed in the Eastern National Gymnastics Competition in Michigan.  Easterns is a competition for Level 9 gymnasts, who qualified within each region. Only the top 7 girls in each age group are chosen! Basically, Elaina competed against the best girls in half of the United States, for her age.

Elaina took 1st place in the Beam, 8th place on Floor, and 9th All Around.  Competition was fierce.  Elaina took 8th on Floor with a score of 9.4 , while the 1st place winner scored  9.5!

Way to go Elaina! Check out her videos!

First Track Meet Results

At their first meet of the season against Groton-Dunstable, both the girls and boys track teams did exceptionally well! The boys won a tight meet by a score of 45 to 41, and, while the girls put up an amazing effort, they were not victorious against a very strong GD team.

For the boys, Jordan Meas came in second in the long jump with a jump of 14’9, Joey Doroski came in third in the shot put with a throw of 24’5, and Trevor Jenkins and Jacob Leblanc came in second and third in high jump, each clearing 5 feet. Caleb Amidon and Aidan Gallagher came in first and second respectively in both the mile and the 800, with both boys breaking the previous school mile record with times of 5:48 and 5:51. Other standouts included Max Patenaude, Will Toppi, and Matt Collins.
For the girls, Dova Koretsky came in first in the long jump at 13’2 and second in the hurdles. Meghan McCarthy was second in shot put with a throw of 24’5 and Jolina Rich cleared 4’2 to come in third in the high jump. Julie Crouse was third in the mile with a time of 6:36. Raelyn Callahan and Isabella Angelucci finished first and second respectively in the 100, with times of 14.4 and 14.5 seconds. Other strong performances were made by Evelyn Bagley, Lindsay Swartz, and Sophia D’Ambrosio.
Awesome job everyone! Our next meet is Tuesday at away against Bromfield.
