Tree Trivia:
For twenty years, Craig and Robin Boettcher of Pepperell have donated trees for the Holiday Tree Lighting at the Lawrence Library.  Last year, the whole family gathered on Thanksgiving Day to cut another beautiful balsam fir. Their home at Twin Brook Farm has cascading meadows and tall stands of deciduous and evergreen trees.  Growing up in Pepperell, Craig and Robin helped plant, prune, and harvest Christmas trees planted on the family farm. Today, those well-tended beauties stand tall, sheltering deer, bobcats, woodpeckers, bluebirds, and tree swallows.
Last year, the Pepperell Highway Department skillfully hoisted the heavy tree in place and Frank Kiluk, library custodian, and Bob Payer, resident and Friend, strung the lights. This year, families will gather to share hot chocolate, cider, and cookies donated by Donelan’s and served by the Boy Scouts.  The Girls Scouts and Appleseed preschoolers will sing as we wait for Santa’s arrival on a Fire Department truck. Santa will magically light the tree, and families can visit Santa in the Winter Wonderland Holiday Village. Free photos of children with Santa will be available to pick up the following week. The room will be available for you to take family photos starting on Tuesday, November 27th.

Sugar and Science in the Children’s Room
The Children’s Room is a sweet place to be. In October, we had a Halloween Candy Science program. Participants had fun playing with the different solutions to see what sank, what floated, and what dissolved. Everyone was shocked to see the white M separate from the M&M candy and float to the top of the vinegar solution. In December, we will have two candy themed programs, sponsored by the Friends of the Library:
Saturday, December 15th @ 11:30 AM
Candy Cane Science and Crafts
Friday, December 28th @ 1:00 PM
Candyland Party!

Cupcake Festival

Bring your cupcakes to sell before 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 12th. Awards will be announced at 12:30 PM. All sales will benefit children’s programs at the library.
Business Friends
Community member and business owner Angelina Sutherland, of  East Coast Vinyl Decals, is designing a vine display to acknowledge Business Friends of the Lawrence Library. The display will grow in the library Meeting Room, with leaves for every Business Friend.
Angelina’s decal business was so successful that she had to move it out of her home and into her new location at 20 Mill Street, RM 176 (Pepperell Place). There she has a studio and shop where she consults with customers for weddings and other special events.
Business Friend of the Lawrence Library, and long-time community member, Rich Douglas loves the library, especially the museum passes. The Friends provide 24 discount passes to museums and other area attractions. Rich has thirty years of experience in the insurance business, and owns L. F. Robbins Insurance Agency of Townsend, Acton, and Pepperell.
A member of Insurance Services of New England, he provides personal and commercial insurance for all your needs. He gives credit for his success to his informed and congenial staff, and he believes that it is “incumbent on local businesses to assist vital and intricate organizations like the Library, which provides so many resources to our community.” Have you taken advantage of a library pass to a ball game or museum, or enjoyed a children’s program, a concert, or a show in the Art Gallery?
