Snow Day Extended Learning

SNOW DAY EXTENDED LEARNING PILOT COMMITTEE

The district leadership team has been exploring the possibility of initiating a pilot of Extended Learning opportunities for students as an alternative to making up all snow days at the end of the school year.  This past week Superintendent Landers informed the school committee of the formation of a district-wide work group to put together a proposal to present for a pilot of this initiative.

The district is seeking to form a committee comprised of representation from the following groups: School Committee, a parent representative from each of the three towns, faculty members from each of the three levels (elementary, middle, high), a support staff member and one or more members of the district leadership team.  The meetings to review the research already completed by the leadership team and to put together a proposal for our district pilot to present to the school committee will be held on the following dates and times:

The presentation to the school committee is tentatively scheduled for Monday, December 4th. Winter and spring dates will be determined by the committee as needed after the presentation to the school committee in December.

If you are interested in being a part of this Snow Day Extended Learning Pilot Committee, please email Becky Janda, principal of Spaulding Memorial School, who will be chairing this committee at bjanda@nmrsd.org by this Thursday, November 2.

Halloween at NMS

Halloween is Tuesday, October 31. At NMS, students should not wear costumes, face paint or masks to school. We are encouraging students to wear black, purple and orange. Also, please discourage your student from packing all their trick or treat candy for lunch on Wednesday!

This year, as part of a health project, we are also participating in Operation Gratitude.  Students can donate some of their excess Halloween candy in a bin in the front lobby between November 1-8.  Your extra treats can help put smiles on the faces of our deployed Service Members and First Responders! This is a great opportunity for students to give back and say thank you.

NMRHS Open House

Dear Eighth Grade Families,

Like many families with an eighth grade student, you are probably starting to think about choosing a high school for your daughter or son. This can feel like a daunting experience for a family, and I hope to make the process easier by inviting you and your child to North Middlesex Regional High School’s open house on Thursday November 2, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This evening will provide your family with the information you need to begin thinking about your child’s high school experience. NM supports every student with a strong academic program, a dynamic range of electives, and a supportive staff who will work with your child every step of the way.

There will be a brief presentation at 6:00 p.m. in our Performing Arts Center, followed by an opportunity for families to tour our new, state of the art facility, speak to subject specialists from all departments, and have the opportunity to speak to our current high school students.

To find out more about NM, please visit our Facebook page @NorthMiddlesexRegionalHighSchool, updated daily with information and pictures from our amazing school. The weekly publication NM Knows also provides families with a look into the creative and academic world within our walls. Finally, please feel free to reach out to me, the administrative team, or guidance if you have any questions about how we can help you child achieve his or her dreams and ambitions.

I am very much looking forward to meeting you on November 2nd.

Sincerely,

Isaac Taylor

Principal

Guitars are here!

Our new guitars are here, somewhat tuned, and ready for our students!  Our 7th graders had the first opportunity to get their hands on these instruments and so far are having a blast!  Their fingers may hurt, their brain may be tired, but these students won’t give up on learning a new instrument!  Enjoy the pictures of some of our students playing!
