3D Printing

At the beginning of this school year, Mr. Worth was able to purchase a 3D printer for our school through a grant. He was working with our 6th graders before the holiday break exploring this new technology and talking about what it can do and what we hope it can accomplish in the future. Naturally, all students were eager to print something. So, students learned some background about 3D printing then, took to http://www.tinkercad.com – a free web based tool for creating CAD designs that can be 3D printed.

Students learned about  3D modeling through tutorials and lessons which helped them learn the skills to design their own holiday ornament! Students were able to engineer how their ornament would be hung, and were reminded to design with the printer in mind. They had to create an ornament that would print out well based on how the printer works: printing from the bottom, one layer at a time. Students had a great time and some were even able to have their designs printed. Students were very excited to learn about this up and coming technology and look forward to using it more in the future!

Currently, we are working to raise funds for another project. We are looking to purchase a Chromebook cart for our school. All students would have access to it. The cost of this cart is roughly $10,000. However, Staples has offered to pay half of the cost, if we can pay for the first $5,000! We are determined to do this.
