On Friday, December 18, our 8th Grade Band & Chorus students combined with their counterparts from Hawthorne Brook Middle School to work with Mr. Bielik, Mrs. Blake, and students currently involved in the NMRHS Band & Chorus programs.
Our students met former Nissitissit students who now hold leadership positions in the high school Band and Chorus programs. From them, they learned some facts about one of the best high school music programs in the state, including:
1) You CAN be in the Band AND Chorus programs without choosing one over the other!
2) You are not pulled out of any other class and don’t miss any other class time when you elect to be involved in the music program.
3) All rehearsals are during the school day (nothing before/after school) unless you choose to become more involved.
4) It is possible to play in school and town-league sports, be in various honor societies, and pursue other interests while still being a contributing member of the music program.
Take a listen to part of our combined rehearsal with HBMS’ 8th graders and the NMRHS Wind Symphony in the video below.
