Sound Waves

This week, students in 7th and 8th grade learned about how sound waves travel in music class with Mr. Abrams. After a brief discussion in the classroom of how sound travels relatively slowly, the students were led outside to the front of the building where they experimented with clapping short rhythms and hearing them twice: once in their hands and once when the sound waves bounced off the side of the building. The students are now aware that when they attend a concert and sit way in the back, they actually experience the concert a split second later than those audience members who are seated closer to the source.
