Electromagnetism

GPS?  Who needs that?  As part of a unit on electromagnetism, students are learning how to orienteer the old-fashioned way–with a compass.  First, students learned how to make their own compasses with lodestones, like the ancients did. Then, they learned how to operate the fancy kind used by our armed forces, hunters, and explorers. Did you know that from the front of the school to the DPW shed holds a bearing of 220 degrees? Or, from home plate on the baseball field to Varnum Brook is 140 degrees?
