This Wednesday, September 24, there is no school for students. Teachers have a full day of professional development. What will teachers be working on? Well, all K-8 teachers will start the day at Nissitissit where Assistant Superintendent Nancy Milligan along with administrators, and teacher leaders will present information about District Determined Measures, or DDM’s. DDM’s are measures of student growth, achievement and learning related to our curriculum frameworks that are comparable across the grade level or subject area. The Department of Education requires that all teachers create and implement two measures. The rest of the day, teachers will be working with their colleagues from Hawthorne Brook to finish creating/identifying their assessment and then complete the administration protocols. Our teachers are looking forward to working with their colleagues as there are very few opportunities to collaborate. We will be using additional professional development time throughout the year to assess, monitor, and analyze student growth.
